Gottfried Mews
The site for this new gated residential development was created by the demolition of redundant retail storage buildings.
We constructed six new two storey mews houses, using state of the art products including metal and timber recycled materials, solar roofing panels, and energy display devices.
A piling mat, 36 piles and connecting ring beams were cast to form the supporting foundations. We ran in new services (gas, electricity, water, BT, and reconfigured drainage), and constructed the houses in brick and block with a retaining wall structure to the rear of the building.
The homes were built to the Code for Sustainable Homes standard and were made DDA accessible. In addition, we adhered to Camden Council and Considerate Contractor construction guidelines by measuring and controlling noise levels, dust generation and potential environmental pollution from the site.
Our programme management included assisting in the ongoing development of design during construction to enhance the usability and minimise future maintenance; e.g. structural supporting components, retaining structures, insulation composition and external aesthetics. Our future proofing also included the installation of additional service ducts for prospective works so that the cobbled finish to the mews need not be disturbed.
The development was situated behind a very busy main road with little storage and single access to the mews which was also used by retail unit traders and existing residential tenants. To maintain ready 24 hour access for all parties, we used our local warehousing and distribution facilities and made frequent deliveries of materials at the same time as removing waste
